Off Campus Housing

All students must live in McPherson College housing unless they apply for and receive permission, in writing, from Student Affairs administration to live elsewhere, or if they meet the off-campus living exemptions before the beginning of the academic year.  Lakeside, MC Houses including Deerfield, Terra Nova, Baer, and Harter are considered “on-campus housing”.  This must be renewed annually.

There are exemptions to the campus residency policy. All full-time students who are married and/or have dependents, live with their parents/legal guardians within McPherson County, or are at least 23 years of age on the official fall enrollment day for the academic year are not expected to live on the McPherson College campus.  Students who claim the exemption of living with parents/legal guardians will be required to submit an “Off Campus Verification” that is signed by the parents/legal guardians confirming that they are residing at the residence.  Falsification of information related to these exemptions will result in a housing charge for the entire contractual term.  Additional exemptions to the Residency policy may be granted in cases where people do not meet the above criteria.

The following guidelines will be used, in part, to determine off-campus exception approvals.

Remember, submitting a request does not guarantee approval. Please do not sign a lease until you have received approval from the Office of Student Affairs in writing.

Guidelines to Apply to live off-campus:

  • 21 or JR status by the upcoming academic year

  • 3.0 or above GPA

  • Proof of reliable transportation

  • A student in good standing academically

  • A student with a positive conduct record

Athletes living off campus are required to have a 10-meal plan.  Non-athletes living off campus are not required to have a meal plan, but are welcome to purchase one.

Students who are granted permission to live off-campus will receive an email from Student Affairs clearly stating that they are approved.  These students will need to supply the Office of Student Affairs with a copy of their lease by the first day of the semester.  First round approval will be sent in April 2022 and will continue throughout the summer as available.

Students will be approved to live off campus in order of academic seniority and GPA.

Students who sign a lease prior to receiving approval or who falsify information to receive approval will be charged for housing for the entire contractual term.

Students Currently Off Campus

Students who have been approved to live off campus in the past MUST submit the 2022-2023 Housing & Off Campus Application.  Previously living off campus does not guarantee permission to live off campus again.

Graduating Students

Students who are graduating do not need to participate in housing selection!  Students who are unsure if they are graduating should confirm this with the registrar.

Room Changes

To change your roommate, you MUST follow these steps.

1. Talk to your roommate.  Address any concerns or issues that are creating issues for you both.  Work to find a solution to problems.  Give you and your roommate time to improve your living environment.

2. If there is no improvement in your living situation after you speak with your roommate, ask a Resident Assistant to complete a Roommate Contract.  The link is above.

3. Only after the RA Roommate Contract meeting takes place, and there is still no improvement, will a room or roommate change be considered.  The completed Roommate Contract must be uploaded to this request for the change to be considered.

4. If you know who you want to live with, each roommate should complete this form and have the desired roommate sign in the appropriate section.
